These creative industries are now globally recognised as important to local, regional and national economic development and competitiveness. CIBAS is a unique service priding itself on an innovative programme that supports and expands Portsmouth’s growing creative and cultural industries.
The service is funded by the Area Investment Framework, Arts Council England South East and the University of Portsmouth, providing a range of specialist services for artists and creative businesses. It been developed from the perspective of what it is to be an artist and deals with specific issues that arise from artistic and creative practice. By developing training days, seminars, one to one advice and networking events CIBAS is currently supporting self employed individuals in the visual arts, crafts writing, design, music, theatre, film and dance.
Since January 2006, CIBAS has supported over 100 artists through free, one-to-one creative business advice, over 500 individuals have attended their training and networking events. CIBAS has also helped a number of small companies to start-up, many having grown as a result of the unique advice and financial support offered.
In March 2007, CIBAS established a dedicated group of established Portsmouth & South East Hampshire based Creative Champions. An advisory group for CIBAS and other agencies, the champions are experts in their own fields and ambassadors for the growth and development of the local creative economy.
