It’s anonymous, so there are no privacy concerns, yet the information enables the company to create a virtual path of where the person has gone and provides a precise picture of how people behave in a space. The first application for Path Intelligence’s FootPath product is providing information on the path shoppers’ take around shopping centres – something that had previously been unavailable.
PI’s system opens a new world of information for the tricky art of planning shopping centres, allowing Centre Planners and Managers to optimise their mix of retailers and even to recognise the busy parts of the centre so they can see which areas might need more security, maintenance, and cleaning.
The system also helps to understand how shoppers group stores together, which is important because understanding and predicting shopper behaviour is the key to making shopping centres more efficient.
Path Intelligence hopes that their ground-breaking technology will encourage a change in the way shopping centres are run.
