Portsmouth's preparation for the 2012 Olympics
Portsmouth’s Mountbatten Sports Centre has undergone a £20million renovation.
The new state of the art facilitiy features an Olympic sized community swimming pool. This exciting project was undertaken by Parkwood Leisure, one of the largest management leisure contractors in the country with an existing portfolio of over 50 leisure facilities.
The renovated sport centre includes a new 150 station fitness suite; 400 metre, 8-lane, all weather athletics track; a new health suite with separate changing facilities; poolside accommodation and offices including a 200 capacity viewing area overlooking the main pool. The Centre is already hosting many events each year including the Royal Shakespeare Company, Robot Wars and Sky Sports Boxing.
The potential of the Alexander Park facility has been recognised and as a result it will be included in the pre-games training camp guide for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic games. Set at the gateway of the city, this newly developed sports centre is unique to Portsmouth, and should attract world class athletes from all over the UK.
