Nightrunner Bus service

Safer Portsmouth Partnerships successful Nightrunner bus service 23 which runs from the seafront up to Leigh Park every Friday and Saturday was two years old in December 2007.

The bus, which is run in partnership with Stagecoach Buses, has so far picked up and safely taken home well over 3000 people since the service was started in December 2005.

To help combat anti-social behaviour, and ensure clubbers out late have a safe and affordable means of getting home after a night out, the Nightrunner was given £10,000 funding from licensees and the partnership for the on-board security guards and to help run the N23 service from South Parade Pier up to Leigh Park. In April, the service was extended to cover Gunwharf Quays as well.

As part of the partnership’s week-long “think what you drink” alcohol awareness campaign, clubbers are reminded that the Nightbus is there for them. At a flat rate of £2.50 in the city and £5.00 outside, it’s a small price to pay for the partygoers’ safety.
